Amelia The Brave

Amelia was a happy, energetic little girl before cancer showed it’s ugly face and strange symptoms started to pop up. After medical examination, she was diagnosed with Pre B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and the family’s whole life was turned upside down. Amelia has changed into a fearful, emotional child after enduring and continuing to endure not only treatment, but all of the difficulties that come from treatment. Constant ER trips, appointments, treatments... it has all been so much for her and her family.

Especially, her sweet mother Nadia.

Nadia is one of those people that I’ve come across in the childhood cancer community that my soul immediately feels comfortable with. Her kind, welcoming soul just scooped me up and held me close. That is so incredibly special to come by, especially in a life like this. Nadia has struggled with her mental health for as long as she can remember and when her daughter was diagnosed with cancer, everything amplified. I admire Nadia so much because she not only endures all of this, but she openly shares her struggles on her page so that others who feel the same can not feel so alone in their pain. Being open and vulnerable about mental health struggles is true selflessness and bravery.

Well, recently, Nadia’s mental health has declined to a point where she decided that it was best for her and her family to take her mental health into the hands of trained professionals. For her, this meant canceling her treat orders for the next couple of months so that she could go to the center and focus on her healing. Nadia is an extremely talented cookie, cupcake, cake creator and loves her small business so deeply. Seeing her have to cancel orders and take the financial hit from all of the refunds made my heart hurt, so I can only begin to imagine how she felt. But, mental health comes first and always should. The decision to make sure she gets the help she needs has meant that her husband needs to take work off to care for Amelia and her 3 siblings while Nadia takes care of herself.

Amelia is still in active treatment and has been for the past 2 years. All the treatment, ER visits that quickly turn into admissions, all the time Nadia and her wonderful husband have had to take off from work... it’s absolutely financially devastating for this family. They advocate for childhood cancer, raise money for childhood cancer research, Nadia even wrote a children’s book with funds raised going to the hospitals. This beautiful family needs help. I’d really love to recover the money that Nadia has had to refund her clients for their yummy treats for the couple of months she's had to step back and maybe even more so that she can continue to focus on herself.

Let’s see what Charlie’s Village can pull together for a family all the way across the world in Australia. Charlie’s Village can have an impact no matter the distance! Let’s show them how loved and cared for they are and carry them through this difficult time.
