Lana is a 7 year old from Hodgenville, KY. Lana is a tough kid that almost never complains. She can laugh through her hardships. No matter how sick she is she always thinks of others. Lana’s journey started when she and her sisters kept getting hit with several viruses, strep throat, pneumonia, head colds, etc. back to back. While her sisters were getting better she remained sick. She became tired all the time, would get out of breath, then she started developing petechiae, tiny pinhead size bruises, and nose bleeds.

Lana was brought in to her pediatrician and saw a doctor they had not seen before, who believed she was still reacting to a virus. She was brought back and saw her regular doctor within a few days. They thought Lana had developed Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) where her previous viral infections may have caused her immune system to attack her platelets. However, that was not the case and the reality was far worse.

After her blood work was drawn and analyzed, her Dr. sent them immediately to Norton Children’s hospital in Louisville. She was admitted to the Pediatric ICU and was later on diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
