Prior to diagnosis, Zayden was preparing to start High School. He was just approved to transfer and start freshman year at the high school his grandma taught at. Zayden was skateboarding around the neighborhood and at parks with his friends. He was having fun going to music concerts with his mom and grandpa. And he just started attending boxing classes.

When learning he needed to transfer to another hospital due to concerns about cancer, Zayden acted out. He was in shock and disbelief and very angry. He wanted to go home. He wanted to go to school. He was scared and very confused.

Zayden and our family have a different way of living. We have become accustomed to living in a hospital. He looks forward to going back to boxing classes, taking trips, and going to concerts.

A dream trip would bring such joy to Zayden. A distraction where he doesn’t feel sick. This trip will be a positive focus for Zayden to look forward to. Simply to be out in the world and not in a hospital room and bed. This trip will help him feel “normal.” For our family, we will have the opportunity to bond and create happy memories together. This would be such a special time for us.
