A DREAM TRIP AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT

$27,684.67

Emerie is a 5-year-old from San Antonio, TX who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

She’s outgoing, and loves to dance and sing. From the few moments I talked to her on Zoom, she seemed like any other happy young girl who just wanted to have fun. But so much has happened to her.

This past March, she lost her mother, the person who always took care of her and did everything for her, to a drunk driver. And just a few short months later, this past September 30th, her dad, Johnny died suddenly, after being diagnosed with cancer just a few weeks earlier.

Johnny and I spoke a number of times before he passed away…

Her father, Johnny, writes “If you can only imagine fighting cancer and then losing your mother on top of that. And I lost my other half of 9 years, so it has been very hard to not only provide but just to carry on.

I have to care for her and take her to her appointments and take care of her needs.

I have not worked since March and have had people help us and organizations help us with everyday bills and food. It's getting a little bit better and we're getting back on our feet. We are very much appreciative of anything that anyone can do for her and for us.”

After talking to them on zoom and learning about all that they had been through, I knew Campaign One At A Time needed to do something for them.

Just a few weeks after writing this, Johnny would be hit with more devastating news. He called me a few times but I wasn’t able to answer. Other people from our organization reached out but he said he needed to discuss something private with me.

“I haven’t been able to get out of bed for the last couple of days and I finally was able to see a doctor and, I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but I have cancer.”

I felt the fear in his voice.

His daughter was with cancer less than 2 years ago and is still battling every day. He lost his wife and the mother of his child 6 months ago. And now, he is having to battle cancer himself.

He said he can barely get out of bed. He told me that they weren’t sure of its severity yet and he’s just waiting on when the next tests but “if this is how I feel now before I even start chemo, I don’t know what’s next.”

Johnny stressed to me that he still wanted us to do whatever we could for Emerie. He wanted to give Emerie some happiness.

That last time I spoke to him was September 29th. Johnny suddenly passed away on September 30th. We found out from the organization that introduced us on October 3rd, the day we launched Emerie’s campaign.

Campaign One At A Time is now raising money to send Emerie on a dream trip and give her the happiness her mom and dad would want her to have, and also help her family with anything and everything we can help them with.

Update 12/19/2022

It’s been a very busy couple of weeks for Emerie and her family.

Emerie with volunteer, Valerie.

On November 22nd, volunteers Valerie and Bill from Campaign One At A Time visited Emerie and gave her some awesome gifts for her birthday and Christmas. Emerie loved her gifts, especially her Bluey toys, and our volunteers and Emerie’s grandma, Linda, felt so blessed to meet each other and give Emerie a bit of happiness for the day.

Emerie’s family celebrated Thanksgiving and also celebrated Johnny’s birthday on November 27th.

From grandma Linda “We had a good Thanksgiving!  I also spoke yesterday with Valerie. We had a nice chat for a while. I'll told her I'll keep in touch with her and send pictures of Emerie she said she would love that!  On Sunday we had a wonderful day! It was Johnny's birthday. We took balloons and flowers to the cemetery we let the balloons up in the air.

It was a beautiful family day. And I know Johnny was with us every step of the way. So many pictures we took and there were so many beautiful Aura's in them.  Emerie picked out the Christmas tree she wanted us to buy and all the ornaments and she wanted the lights for outside so thank you for the money cuz we were able to do all that for her.”

Part of what has been fundraised so far for Emerie was sent to her grandma, Linda, so that they could get a Christmas Tree, decorations, and presents for Emerie.

December 15th was Emerie’s birthday and she got to celebrate at Chuck E Cheese with her family! Look at her smile! She also had a party to celebrate her cancer anniversary, a party that was very important to her dad and whole family. These happy moments mean the world to her and her family.

Her grandmother, Linda said

“I try to keep her as happy and it's busy as I can. Because at the end of the night when she's ready to go to bed it's when we cry for Mom and Dad. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me being able to have her party on Saturday. It meant everything to me just like her Dad.”

On January 27th, the Campaign One At A Time team will give Emerie her DREAM trip to Kalahari Resort and present her family with the remaining funds that have been raised for her and her family.

We look forward to being joined by anyone who is in the area that can make it as we try to show Emerie as much love and support as possible!

Help us reach our goal of $50,000 to cover the costs of Emerie's dream trip and help her family financially.
