DREAM TRIP TO DISNEY WORLD
AND GIVE KIDS THE WORLD VILLAGE

Goal: $5,000

Prior to diagnosis, Mia was a bubbly, active little girl who loved riding her bike with the neighbor kids, going on walks with her brother Logan, and playing at the beach with all of us. We were looking forward to our annual summer getaway in Mammoth Man, and we were all planning where we were going to stay and what hikes to do. Mia wanted to go to the warm water.
Getting the news was a shock to all of us. Mia was only 6, so didn't really understand what was happening. Knowing that Ed was home with the boys and they all cried together still crushes me. That our boys had to deal with the first weeks without us. Our friends and family were there checking in with them and dropping meals off but it just wasn't the same. Telling Ed over the phone...sitting in a little room all by myself so I could cry and freak out before fixing my face and walking back into Mia. We didn't tell her until 2/17 that she was very sick. We wanted to get all the information child life actually told her. We sat there frozen and not sure what to say.
The diagnosis has been hard on Mia. Going running all over to being pushed in a stroller was hard. From having a beautiful head of wavy hair that went almost to her butt to losing it all the way about 6-7 weeks into treatment. Mia has asked when she will be able to ride a bike again and when she will be skinny again. It's heartbreaking to hear her sometimes.
Mia is so ready to go on a vacation. Our family is ready. Dylan is 20 now and in college, Logan is 16 and going to be a junior in high school, and Mia is 8 going into 3rd. We loved to take short vacations during the summer and have not been able to have that family time since she's been sick. Our kids keep asking when we can have a family vacation, but there's always an apt that can't be missed, or her counts are too low, or their schedules conflict. We are ready as a family for some normalcy and bonding again.
