What was Alphonso like before diagnosis?
He was a healthy baby when he was born. I had him at 36 weeks due to my high blood pressure. AJ was the best baby and most of all always happy.

What did Alphonso enjoy doing?
He loved to learn always would grab a book just show me pictures or cool things he was seeing.

What was it like getting the news?
I remember hearing the news like it was yesterday. AJ got transferred from St Vincent hospital in Morrilton, Ar to Arkansas Childrens hospital in little rock, ar. On December 23, 2018 he was so cold and face blue they had a hard time getting blood from him had to put warm blankets on him to get his blood circulating. When they finally were able to, we had to wait a day or two to see what was really wrong with him and found out on December 26, 2018. Can't forget the date we spent our Christmas there. I was really in shocked I didn’t know much about cancer at all.

How has his diagnosis changed him?

Caused his life to totally change. He had to get his top lip removed due to an infection called bipolarsis, had a trachea , had to relearn how walk again, loss hearing due to chemotherapy, has get so much therapy with speech, physical, occupational, and learn sign language until his lip surgery

How has the diagnosis changed the family?
PTSD has been hard on us on the things we experienced and seen during his journey. we really don’t have much family it's always been us two. Most definitely changed our life we haven’t had much fun in long time. We are so busy with appointments, school, therapy and so much more. We always had a great mother and son bond was very hurtful see us not able to communicate to each other when has a lot to say. We are working on sign language has helped some. I will say we are blessed in so many ways and know we can overcome anything.

What has Alphonso missed out on?

He has missed out on his youngest years as in baby years. He was 2 years old when he was diagnosed was just getting started.

What would the dream trip mean to Alphonso and the family?

Mean everything give us some type of happiness during our busy life. I don’t want him to miss out on anything else. He deserves it all. Been through the toughest battle a kid could ever face at such a young age.
