Meet Kara Skrubis – 19 year old cancer fighter
My name is Kara Skrubis and I am a 19-year-old cancer fighter.
In January of 2020, I was diagnosed with a rare pediatric bone cancer, osteosarcoma, in my left tibia. I underwent 9 months of intense chemotherapy as well as a left above-the-knee amputation in April. I am
currently doing 8 months of immunotherapy. During my time in the pediatric oncology unit, I was shocked by how many kids were struggling with cancer.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate, especially on age. So much potential for bright, funny, and courageous little lives yet they were stuck in a hospital room. For many of them, it didn’t even seem like there would be an end. This inspired me to do whatever I could to help in the world of pediatric cancer. I currently go to university to become a child life therapist to hopefully make hospital experiences a little bit easier. Campaign One At A Time fulfills the role of support and inspiration for pediatric cancer warriors. I am blown away by their generosity and I am so excited to help alongside them!!
If you’d like to help make an impact with me, please take a moment to learn more about this month’s current campaign child Jaylan. At just 11 years, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. I know too well how it feels going through tough diagnosis, hospital stays, tests, chemo, the daily life that no one wants to live. Jaylan at just 11 years old has to fight for his life, the life he has ahead of him.
We are on a mission to raise $10,000 in the month of February to fulfill Jaylan’s dream of visiting Los Angeles, Ca. A trip like this would bring Jaylan the ultimate joy!
